Barrow AFC will be giving players who have struggled for first-team action this season some game time in tonight’s Lancashire Senior Cup tie against Oldham Athletic at Holker Street.

Summer signings Morgan Penfold and Mark Waddington have barely featured for the Bluebirds so far and they’ll have to chance to force their way into the plans of manager Ian Evatt after being unused subs in last Saturday’s 2-1 win at Aldershot Town.

Rochdale loanee Brad Wade is set to start in goal in what will be his first run-out for AFC, who are looking to reach the second round at the expense of the Latics, with the match kicking off at 7pm.

Evatt said: "Football always gives opportunities - I've said that, regardless of good results or bad results.

"There's always a second chance with games coming thick and fast in this league and we've got a cup competition to play in on Tuesday and there will be players who haven't played enough minutes yet involved. It's about whether they are able to go and perform and get in my plans pretty quickly.

"It's a good squad, it's a competitive squad - we left Connor Brown and Oliver Greaves out of the entire 16 on Saturday, which shows you how competitive it is because these are very good players.

"But we've got to have competition for places, so they can push each other on and produce the right performances in league matches."

Several players from the Bluebirds' reserves and under-21 teams are also likely to play in the game.
