Barrow AFC striker Scott Quigley believes he is showing his best form when it matters after shrugging off an indifferent start at Holker Street by scoring in his last three games for the Bluebirds.

Quigley's well-taken goal on the turn right at the start of the second half proved to be the difference for AFC against Yeovil Town in what was a hard-fought 1-0 win in front of the BT Sport cameras last Saturday.

This came one week after the summer signing from Blackpool has opened his account with an opportunistic chip into an open goal after dispossessing the goalkeeper against Eastleigh.

The 26-year-old followed that up with the opening goal in the 3-2 defeat at Stockport and his recent performances have shown he is over the knee injury that hampered him during part of pre-season.

Quigley said: "In pre-season I had a little niggle and I just needed to manage that.

"Let's be honest, pre-season counts towards building fitness and that's about it. It was always about what would happen from August 3.

"From there, I think we were unlucky against Stockport with the chances that we had, but against Yeovil we were definitely the better team and we deserved the three points."

On what his recent run has done for his confidence, Quigley added: "It's not just about me, it's about the whole team.

"The gaffer tweaked things on Saturday and it obviously worked to a point to get us three points."

What manager Ian Evatt will want to see is a greater level of consistency in his team's performances, starting with Saturday's trip to his old club Chesterfield.

Just as in their last match at the Proact Stadium, Barrow head there with the Spireites struggling for results, as one of the pre-season promotion favourites from the National League have yet to pick up a win in five games.

AFC will certainly want a repeat of the defensive display against Yeovil, which was a big improvement from a sometimes slipshod performance at the back at Stockport.

Quigley said: "Obviously, we're working on it, but we're also working on playing three at the back, even though we diverted back to playing with four at the back against Yeovil.

"It worked and that's the main thing. They were a big team coming from [from League Two] and it showed the squad is starting to gel.

"It's important to go to Chesterfield and pick up the result, because if we get that, that's when you start picking up momentum and that's when people start to look at you as challengers."
