WINGER Lindon Meikle is back in the Barrow AFC squad after being recalled early from his one-month loan at Southport.

The Bluebirds exercised their right to bring back the 28-year-old from Haig Avenue to bolster a squad hit by injuries and suspension.

Meikle had joined National League rivals the Sandgrounders last month, and had been due to be part of their squad for Saturday's match with Braintree Town – having played in four games since his arrival.

However, Barrow boss Paul Cox brought him back as soon as the minimum 28-day loan period had elapsed, and he will be in contention to feature in this weekend's home encounter with Dagenham and Redbridge.

Meikle's loan spell with Southport has coincided with an injury and suspension surge at AFC, meaning Cox has not been able to name a full bench for their last two games.

His recall goes some way to addressing the shortage of numbers, and Cox said: “We could only recall him after 28 days and we have brought him back early. We can't have a situation where we only have three outfield players and a goalkeeper on the bench – we need to make sure that we are covered in all departments.”

AFC have both Richie Bennett and Liam Hughes back from two-game suspensions for the visit of the Daggers, but Jordan Williams will sit out that game and the midweek match with Wrexham after picking up his 10th yellow card of the season in the 2-0 defeat at Eastleigh last weekend.

Both Ross Hannah and Dan Rowe are battling to be fit having sat out that loss.
