NEW Barrow AFC boss Ady Pennock won’t get carried away by Saturday’s 3-1 victory over high-riding Aldershot that halted a winless run of ten National League games.

“It was nice to get the three points for everybody involved with the football club, from top to bottom and especially the fans,” he said.

“The recovery can be done with small steps. I don’t want to get carried away. I just tinkered a little bit, changes the shape a little bit and it worked very well.

“The club has been very unfortunate with injuries, bad luck here and there, but we are where we are in the table for a reason.

“However we didn’t carry anybody today and that’s a big thing. Everybody put a shift in.”

He didn’t officially start work with the club until today but joined interim manager Neill Hornby on the bench on Saturday, saying: “I didn’t see any point in my sitting in the stand.

“I thought we showed a lot of character after we conceded after our great start. I could imaging fans saying ‘Here we go again’ but I said to Neil we had to dig in for the next five or ten minutes.

“We did and it was a very good performance and we looked a solid side. We needed to because Aldershot can play some good football.

“It has been tough for Neill in the three games he has had and I felt very pleased for him. It is nice to win. It gives everybody a buzz in the area and something we have got to look forward to in our next game in two weeks’ time.”

He added: “We are in this position, three from the bottom, for a reason. There is a project to be done here – a lot of work off the pitch as well as on it.

“I want to give everyone a chance but we could have players on our hands who are not good enough.”
