Furness Raider 28
Salford Red Devils Academy 18
THE Raiders were made to fight hard for the two points on offer making it three successive wins after coming back from 12-4 down at the break.
Furness were up and running after five minutes when neat play from Will Scott, Dan Knott and Seth Woodend paved the way for Isaac Tizard to cross in the corner for an unconverted try 4-0.
On 22 minutes, the Devils were reduced to 12 men when centre Ellis Clarke was sent off for a high tackle on Furness winger Tizard, Clarke himself was almost knocked out after colliding with a fellow team-mate and left the field dazed and red carded by referee Matty Bolton.
Furness were set to gain the upper hand, but made several mistakes whilst trying to penetrate the Devils defence
However, the 12-men Devils were playing good rugby and were to take the lead midway through the half.
Winger Joe Griffiths raced down the wing and was destined to score only for Leni Regan to haul him down a foot short of the line.
But quick hands saw Jake Briggs touchdown, from close range, Gardner adding the goal 4-6.
And when the half-time hooter sounded, Sam Bradbury crossed the home line, for Gardner to convert, 4-12.
Furness had it all to do, and within two minutes of the second half Knott raced down the wing before sending the ball inside to Woodend who failed to gather with the line at his mercy.
However, Woodend soon made amends when he burst through the cover on an angle run to dot the ball down, Rio Walker tagging on the goal 10-12.
This lifted the home side and within two minutes Woodend was racing in from 35 metres for Walker to convert 16-12.
Furness had their tails up going further ahead when Woodend crashed through the cover to send Tizard in at the corner, Walker obliging with the goal 22-12.
Hudson Payne showed his strength to force his way over making it 26-12 prior to Rory Greenhalgh crossing for the visitors with Matt Gardner adding the goal 26-18.
Furness are at home tonight (Kick-Off 6.30pm) when they take on Lancaster Academy.
