BARROW AFC defender Theo Vassell is fired up for tonight’s away clash with Doncaster Rovers.
It’s another big game for The Bluebirds and he believes success on the road this evening will put the 2-0 loss away to Gillingham into context.
He told the club’s official YouTube channel: “Obviously every game is a big game, but especially after a defeat on Saturday, I think it makes it even more important that we do go there and pick up as many points as possible.
“Because we’d look at it as two away games against two tough teams. That’s six points to play for.
“How many can we take from those six?
“If someone had said to me Gillingham and Doncaster away, take three to four points I would have taken it to be honest.
“Then obviously we are back at home, so if we can pick up as many points as possible tonight, and go back to playing at home, I think it puts us in a good position.”
The defeat at Priestfield saw the Gills replace Barrow at the top of the League Table – the Cumbrians dropping to third.
Vassell said he thought it might have been worse, but was quick to point just how far there still is to go.
He added: “I was a little shocked that we were still in the top three after losing on Saturday. I guess some results went in our favour, which can happen.
“But I think we have just got to keep on pushing.
“There’s still 38 games to go, so there’s plenty of time.”
The games are coming thick and fast at the moment, but the centre-back believes that can be a good thing if the previous result hasn’t gone the way you wanted.
“If you lose a game and it’s Saturday to Saturday, you feel like the week drags, and you’ve got to wait longer to put it right,” he said.
“But obviously with it being a quick turn around I think that’s massive, it helps so much.
“So I’m kind of glad we’ve got a game tonight.”
Vassell is one of few ever presents so far this season for Stephen Clemence’s side, but he isn’t taking that for granted.
He said: “I feel good. I think a lot of it is down to mentality, but it’s been a tough week this week, especially with all of the travelling and stuff like that.
“But I’m feeling, I’m in good spirits and the body feels good.
“It’s a nice feeling (to be one of the first names on the team sheet), but it all matters on how your play in games, how you perform in training to make sure you are on that team sheet.”
