BARROW AFC boss Stephen Clemence says making his Football League debut will be a special moment for goalkeeper Wyll Stanway.
Stanway will be inbetween the sticks for the Bluebirds when they travel to face Grimsby Town tomorrow.
Barrow are without the services of keeper Paul Farman, who is suspended following his sending off in the 1-1 draw with Swindon Town last weekend.
Head coach Clemence has no doubt that Stanway is ready to take his chance at Blundell Park tomorrow.
He told The Mail: “Wyll is an England C goalkeeper. He’s played a lot of games with Chester and elsewhere, and has experience at the lower level.
“Obviously, it will be a big day for Wyll. Making your league debut, you always remember that.
“I’m sure he will be a little bit nervous (making his league debut for his hometown club), but he’ll be a little bit excited as well and I hope he enjoys it.
“What I have seen since I came in the building is a very good young goalkeeper, and I’m certainly not worried about him going in goal for us this weekend.
“He’ll be absolutely fine.”
While Stanway and the suspended Farman are battling each other for the starting role as the Barrow number one, Clemence said it has very much been a week for camaraderie than rivalry this week.
He added: “I know Farms (Farman) will there, as he already has been this week supporting him.
“Normally you’re supporting the number one goalkeeper if you like, but it has been the other way round this week, and Farms has been offering him a lot of support.
“That’s good to see, and like I say I’ve got no worries about Wyll going in goal and it will be nice for him to get his league debut.”
Stanway may not be the only change to Clemence’s starting line-up to face Town.
Clemence said: “Hopefully, Emile Acquah will be back in contention.
“He got through training for the first time (on Thursday), so I’m hoping he will be back and ready for selection.
“Obviously, that will depend on how he wakes up over the next couple of days, so we will see how he is.
“I’ve got one or two other issues as well that have come up since the Swindon Town game, so we will have to see what happens there.
“So we will see how things go before we decide how we will line up against Grimsby.”
