BARROW Raiders Ladies ran out comfortable 24-4 winners against Huddersfield Giants Women in their final home game of the Betfred Women’s Super League season.
The result sees the Ladies secure fifth place in the table in the first season at the highest level of the women’s game.
It was the visitors who drew first blood with an unconverted try on 13 minutes.
But Amanda Wilkinson’s side hit back just after the half-hour mark – Emma Hutchinson claiming the first of her hat-trick of tries, with Nicole Stewart adding the extras to make it 6-4.
That’s how the scoreline remained in a close battle in the opening half.
Raiders turned on the style after the break, increasing their lead on 52 minutes.
Sam Norman scored the try, but Stewart’s kick from out wide hit the post and bounced clear (10-4).
Vanessa Temple got in the action with a try just before the hour, Stewart converting to make it 16-4.
On 65 minutes, Hutchinson grabbed her second try. Stewart conversion attempt fell just short to put the hosts 20-4 up.
With time running out, Hutchinson went over for her hat-trick. Stewart’s kick went wide of the mark as Raiders sealed an impressive 24-4.
Wilkinson’s squad have more than held their own in their first season in Super League and the future certainly looks bright.
They round off their league campaign away from home next Saturday.
They will travel to the Totally Wicked Stadium to face St Helens Women (2pm kick-off).
