BARROW AFC boss Pete Wild won’t be taking anything for granted under the Friday night lights.
The Bluebirds face Crewe Alexandra this evening (7.45pm kick-off) and Wild is expecting another tough test.
Wild’s men have been in top form this season – winning a record six consecutive League Two games on the bounce.
The Cumbrians currently find themselves second in the league table – above Wrexham on goal difference.
But fifth-placed Alex are no mugs themselves having lost only four league games so far this term, winning 10 and drawing seven.
And Wild says his side are aware of the threats that this evening’s opponents possess.
“I think that Crewe is always a tough place to go,” said Wild.
“I think they are really good at home, and I think they have shown that.
“So we know that they will be looking to try to get at us, and we have to be ready for that.”
Lee Bell’s Crewe side have showed their fighting spirit throughout the campaign coming from behind on numerous occasions.
That is something Wild is well of and he knows that the Bluebirds will need to make sure they don’t give an inch.
He added: “One of Crewe’s biggest attributes is their ‘never-say-fie’ attitude.
“Whenever they have been down in games they have either come back to draw or come back to win.
“And we saw that again on Saturday (a 3-3 draw with Accrington Stanley), so we are expecting a really tough encounter.
“They are a team like Swindon Town (who Barrow beat 3-0 last weekend) where if you give them time and give them space they can really hurt you.
“We have to be highly respectful of what Crewe offer and we have to make sure our defensive plan stops what Crewe offer.”
Wild expects some of Crewe’s threat to come from dead ball situations.
However, he also thinks that Barrow will also pose a threat from similar situations should they arise.
“We need to make sure we are good on set-pieces,” he explained. “It should be a good set-piece game tonight, because Crewe are outstanding at set-pieces and we’ve been very good at set-pieces recently, so that could be a key factor in the game.”
