BARROW coach Paul Crarey has brought into his squad two Salford Red Devils forwards on loan for the away game at York City Knights.

Thirty-one-year-old experienced second row/prop forward James Greenwood and promising prospect, Amir Bourouh, 22 are set to play in the Minster City.

Bourouh, a hooker, will step into the boots of regular number nine Josh Wood who is ruled out for at least four weeks, his signing is a boost for the squad with Nathan Mossop also ruled out for the immediate future.

Bourouh came off the production line at Wigan Warriors and had a spell at Halifax on loan. He is highly regarded at Salford, and was handed the number 21 shirt in the Red Devils squad.

At Wigan he came up against stiff opposition for the number nine shirt in Sam Powell and Brad O’Neill. He made eight appearances for Wigan before moving to Salford where he appeared eight times.

Greenwood is a vastly experienced campaigner having started his career with Wigan playing also for London Broncos,Workington, Hull KR and Salford.

AT KR he played in 83 games notching 19 tries while at Salford he appeared in 23 games crossing for six tries.

Crarey said ahead of the trip to York: “With Josh Wood and Nathan Mossop ruled out we needed an experienced nine to cover and Amir fits that role.

“Wood has been the backbone of our squad and he is sorely missed.

Greenwood is an experienced player having played almost a hundred games in Super League. I felt we just needed a couple in to lift the squad.

We just need to get that first win under our belts, yet it is still early days.

“We need a big improvement across the park.

“It was another disappointing result last week, losing at Swinton (20-18) in the last minute.

“We had two tough games prior to last week, Toulouse and Sheffield, two really good teams but I thought we could have got a result at Swinton.”

Crarey delays naming his final 17 but could be without skipper Jarrad Stack who has a knee injury.

Ellis Gillam is set to play despite having stitches to a head wound sustained at Swinton, however Sam Brooks is still ruled out.

The Knights coached by former Barrow player Andrew Henderson, went down 36-0 at Toulouse last weekend, travelling minus 11 injured players.
