Experienced former Barrow AFC midfield man Mike Jones has sealed a move to the National League.

Jones has signed for Chesterfield on a one-year deal.

The 34-year-old has been on trial with the Spireites having left Barrow at the end of last season.

Jones, a popular performer for Carlisle United from 2016-20, had an injury-hit time at Holker Street.

He is now hoping for better things under Paul Cook at Chesterfield.

After clinching his move, Jones told the club website: "I’m absolutely buzzing to get it all done and get it signed.

"I’ve been here since the very start [of pre-season] so I feel already settled in.

“I'm looking forward to the season now. Having being here since day one, I’ve felt part of the squad. They’ve made it a really easy transition for me."

Jones made 158 appearances across four seasons at Brunton Park under managers Keith Curle, John Sheridan, Steven Pressley and Chris Beech.

The ex-Oldham Athletic, Bury, Crawley Town and Tranmere Rovers man then joined Barrow upon the south Cumbrians' promotion to the Football League in 2020.

Injuries limited him to 18 appearances for the Holker Street club and he left at the end of the 2021/22 season.

He could make his competitive Chesterfield debut in their National League opener at Dorking Wanderers on Saturday.
