A former Super League talent has bolstered Barrow Raiders' squad for their League 1 title push.

Raiders head coach Paul Crarey has moved to snap up Jake Emmitt, who last played for Lymm RFC but will return to rugby league for the rest of the campaign.

Speaking to the club's official website, Emmitt said: “After Paul rang me telling me about the place, the team and the goals the club are trying to achieve for the rest of the season and beyond, it got me excited about playing again.

“So, I’m hoping I can come in and just help with what the team have been doing already on the field this season.

“I’ve got some close friends up there and they all speak really highly of the people and the place, so I’m just looking forward to getting started."

The 32-year-old Wales international, who made six caps for the national side, has also racked up more than 250 career appearances across spells with St Helens, Castleford Tigers, Salford, Leigh Centurions, Swinton, Keighley and Toronto Wolfpack.

The addition will be a welcome boost for Crarey, with the club confirming this week that seven players have tested positive for Covid-19 and are set to miss out for the Hunslet fixture.

However, the club has committed to play the fixture with a weakened squad, with a statement saying they 'owe it' to supporters and sponsors to attempt to complete the match.

Raiders remain top of the table, four points ahead of nearest rivals Workington Town but having played two more games.
