Barrow AFC hope to build on their derby draw with rivals Carlisle United by taking another step towards League Two survival tonight

The Bluebirds took a point from Saturday's all-Cumbrian clash at Holker Street, with Scott Quigley and former Blue Patrick Brough turning the game around to put Barrow 2-1 up before a late penalty levelled matters.

The club came away with what could still be a crucial point and, defender Brough is hopeful that they can keep their momentum going when they host promotion-chasing Exeter tonight (7pm kick-off).

Speaking to the club's iFollow service, Brough said: “We came away with more points and that’s the aim for every game.

“We’d have liked to have gotten three, but we’ll take a point and move onto our next one on Tuesday.”

The game began on a bad note as Carlisle scored in the opening minutes, but Barrow AFC were able to regroup and strike back.

Brough added: “They scored about two or three minutes into the game. But after that we got ourselves into it.

“The lads showed good character and we were in the lead by half time.

“We hoped we could hang on for all three, but we still managed to get one more point.”

Despite a difficult opening period, Barrow AFC were competitive throughout and came through tricky patches.

“There was a patch where they had dominance, but we didn’t think they were going to score," Brough added. "But they took the chance and it paid off for them.

“After that we were able to dominate massively which really changed the game.

“I thought from then on we’d be on top.

"We made some mistakes; they made some mistakes.

“With their mistakes they let us in a few times which was good. Luckily, I got one in myself.”

Brough, who was born in Carlisle, began his career with the Brunton Park outfit back in 2013.

He later played for Lincoln City, Morecambe, and Scottish Championship club Falkirk before joining Barrow in June 2019.

He added: “It’s always nice to get a goal. With it being my former club, I didn’t think that much of it.

"The main thing was getting the points.

"Against my own club, it doesn’t really bother me. I’m not bothered who I score against.

“For us to come and disappoint them really shows the team that we are and shows what we can hope to do in the future.”

Last month Brough was nominated for the league's 'player of the month' award.
