BARROW Raiders’ Adam Walne has revealed the side are ‘ready to go’ ahead of their Challenge Cup tie next month.

The 1955 winners face Oldham at the Vestacare Stadium on March 20 in the first round and with Paul Crarey’s team back in training, Walne is looking forward to facing the Championship side.

He told the club website: “It is good to actually be training with everyone and getting together with the lads.

“We’re looking pretty sharp considering we have been shut down for a while, but everyone is looking fit and raring to go.

“We have done a bit of contact and we’re all chomping at the bit for that, so it is good.

“[Facing Oldham in the Challenge Cup] is a win we want in the bank and it gives us a chance to see where we are at as a group.”

The fixture will be the prop’s first game for the Raiders since joining on a permanent deal last year.

Walne left Super League's Huddersfield Giants to reunite with his brother Jordan, who have now combined to set up a new gym business called Raw and Outdoor.

It is the third time the two brothers have played in the same team, having previously represented Salford Red Devils and Leigh Centurions together.

After leaving full-time rugby league to join the Raiders and form his business with Jordan, Adam said it has taken time to get used to.

He commented: “You have got to adapt to it, but after a few months it just becomes the norm doing things away from the club like keeping up my weights and extra running. You have got to keep looking after your body, so when we come up for training we are sharp and get a good session in every time we are here.

“You can’t beat the brother rivalry – we compete with everything we do, but it's good because we strive and push to be better at everything we do.

"It is good because we are in the business together, we play rugby together and we talk about things all the time and it can only bode for success in the future.”
