TRANMERE Rovers’ Calum Macdonald will be playing in the EFL Trophy final after the Birkenhead-based club defeated Oxford United in the semi-final on Tuesday evening.
Two goals from Kaiyne Wooley and Kieron Morris, either side of half-time ensured the League Two side came away from the Kassam Stadium with a 2-0.
Former Bluebird, Macdonald, played the full 90 minutes at left-back for Keith Hill’s side.
The 23-year-old spent one season at Holker Street, making 21 National League appearances during the 2017-18 campaign.
It was a season to forget for Bluebirds supporters with the club nearly being relegated to National League North again, but finished the season one point and one position above the relegation zone.
Scoring one goal during his time with Barrow, Macdonald, then a Derby County player, was loaned out to Ady Pennock’s side in November 2017.
Macdonald’s only goal for Barrow came in a 3-3 draw away at Wrexham on New Year’s Day 2018.
He featured against his former club earlier this season during Barrow’s 1-1 draw against Rovers, in Michael Jolley’s first game in the Bluebirds dugout.
Barrow next face Macdonald and Tranmere in two months time, when Jolley’s men will travel down to Merseyside for a three o’clock kick-off on April 24.
The Bluebirds are 23rd in League Two.
