Barrow Raiders' new signing Callum 'The Bear' Bustin is looking forward to getting back onto the pitch after a long lay-off due to Covid.

The 23-year-old prop forward has made a name for himself through his strong carrying ability and his all-round game and will be an exciting player this season for coaching staff and fans to follow.

The former Leeds Carnegie man said: "I am looking forward to playing for Barrow Raiders.

"I have played against them in the past and it is always a tough place to come, so I am looking forward to being on the same side this season."

The last rugby league side he played for before switching codes was Bradford Bulls where he gathered a popular following among fans.

"I decided to come back to league because rugby union is at a standstill and it is likely to be the back end of this year before I would be playing again there," Bustin added.

"I am just looking forward to get playing again really.

"The ambition of this club was a big part of me wanting to join.

"Everyone involved in the club has that same drive and ambition to get to Super League.

"You want to be playing at a club like that, not one that is just there to play rugby.

"When you are playing you want to have that crowd behind you as well to drive you on and Barrow's fans will definitely be able to do that for us."

Bustin admitted it will be odd playing without the fans if supporters are forced to miss games but knows they will be watching on the screen and their support will still be there.

The London-born player started his rugby league journey at the age of seven – uncommon in the south of the county – and came up north to play in 'the heartlands of rugby league' because he believes the draw is much larger here.

Raiders fans can expect plenty of hard collisions from Bustin with or without the ball as he hopes to do what props do best by making hard yards and stopping the opposing forwards in their tracks.

Director of rugby at Barrow Andy Gaffney believes he is going to be a fans' favourite.
