Barrow footballer Ben Davies has signed for Premier League champions Liverpool.

The 25-year-old has joined from Championship side Preston North End on transfer deadline day.

Davies, had joined Preston as an 11-year-old after being spotted playing for Furness Rovers.

The centre-back has now joined the Reds, as Jurgen Klopp’s side have been hit by an injury crisis.

Injuries to centre-backs Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip as well as stand-in centre-back Fabinho, have forced the Merseyside club into the transfer market, where they’ve now snapped up Davies.

The defender’s contract with Preston was due to expire this summer and was linked with moves away from Deepdale.

Both Sheffield United and Celtic were touted as potential suitors, but the Barrovian has now decided to join the Premier League winners.

Davies will now be hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow Barrovian, Emlyn Hughes, and embark on a successful career with the Reds.

Liverpool’s home fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday could be Davies’ first appearance for his new club.
