Barrow Raiders winger Tee Ritson has revealed the team’s players are ready to go ahead of the 2021 season.

Paul Crarey’s side are returning to training in the first week of February, with no contact drills permitted.

The Raiders had temporarily begun pre-season training in November last year, but with new restrictions coming into place this month, were forced to postpone their schedule.

Despite this, Ritson and his teammates have continued to work on their fitness levels throughout the lockdown.

He said: “I am looking forward to getting back.

“Obviously it has been a very long time since we last played.

“Everyone is going to expect a few errors because of that and will be rusty, but after a few games we will be flying.

“We haven’t been able to train over the last couple weeks since this new lockdown has been imposed.

“We have all looked after ourselves.

“Our strength and conditioning coach has been sending us weekly plans to keep us ticking over.”

Although Ritson is expecting the first session back to be a “knock to the system,” he fully expects the team to be back in shape in time for their Challenge Cup first-round tie in March.

The Raiders’ decision to enter the cup has pleased Ritson, who is eager to play as much rugby as he can this season.

Ritson has said that he has not set any individual goals this season, other than to try his best in each game.

He said: “Personally I just want to work hard and do the best I can and make my friends, family and the club proud.

“I haven’t really set any individual goals – I’m just going to take it game by game and put in 100 per cent and I think that’s all I can do at the minute."

The Thailand native also shares boss Crarey’s intention of regaining the club’s Championship status.

“We’re definitely going for promotion,” he added.

“As a team, I feel like we’re ready to go.

“I’ll be disappointed if we don’t get it, our team is more than capable.”
