A Barrow primary school's PE coach is set to take on Derby County in the third round of the FA Cup.

Elliot Newby, who coaches at Newbarns Primary and Nursery School, plays for Chorley FC, who were drawn against Wayne Rooney’s side on Monday.

This follows the National League North side defeating League One club Wigan Athletic and Peterborough United in the two previous rounds.

Newby starred in both games for Chorley, scoring a goal in their first round tie against the Latics.

The Mail:

The 25-year-old’s goal against Athletic kickstarted a comeback.

Chorley went 2-0 down in the first half at the DW Stadium.

However, Newby’s goal in the 48th minute was the first of three as Chorley beat their local rivals 3-2.

This meant that Chorley went into the second round, where they faced Peterborough United.

Ahead of the game, which was played last Saturday, Elliot’s school provided messages of support.

A post on the school's Facebook page said: “Our PE coach, Elliot Newby, is playing in the FA Cup second round for Chorley tomorrow.

“Elliot played a key role by scoring a goal in his team's giant-killing in the first round when they defeated recent FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic 3-2.

“It was the biggest shock of the round and reaching the second round of the FA Cup is a massive achievement in itself.”

The Mail:

Yet again, Chorley recorded another giant-killing against a League One side, beating Posh 2-1.

Chorley’s winner came from a Newby corner as his side secured a place in the third round draw.

Again the school reacted on social media and said: “Elliot has helped Chorley reach the third round of the FA Cup!

“We are very lucky to have such a talented player working with and coaching our children.

“Well done and good luck Elliot!”

The Mail:

Now, Elliot is set to welcome Championship side Derby County to Chorley’s Victory Park.

Chorley manager Jamie Vermiglio has highlighted how big of a challenge it will be.

He said: “We’ve worked hard to get to this stage of the competition and to be given a home tie against a massive club like Derby County is just brilliant.”
