Barrow AFC fans have the chance to win a piece of Bluebirds history - thanks to big-hearted defender Connor Brown.

He has donated his National League title winner’s medal to raise money for the Furness Christmas Appeal.

The medal, awarded as AFC returned to the Football League for the first time in 48 years, will be on offer in a raffle to raise money to support youngsters who are likely to spend this Christmas alone and without family contact.

Brown explained why it is a cause that is important to him.

He said: “This is an initiative that is very close to my heart.

“My mum has fostered children for over 15 years now and I only hope that in donating my medal I can help provide some happiness for some young people in Barrow.”

The raffle will run until 4pm on Friday, December 11 and tickets are priced at £5.

AFC’s Community Trust Manager Craig Rutherford said: “We are so proud to support Connor’s fantastic gesture - it’s an amazing thing for him to do to help support such a worthy cause.

“Once the money is raised, we look forward to purchasing a variety of gifts that will hopefully bring some positivity over the festive period to people who may need that little lift.”
