High-flying Cambridge insist they are taking nothing for granted when they face Barrow AFC tomorrow.

The second-placed Abbey Stadium outfit will be favourites to continue their strong start to the season.

But head coach Mark Bonner says he has been impressed with the way the Bluebirds have performed recently.

Citing the style of play preached by boss David Dunn, following last season’s promotion under Ian Evatt, Bonner said it will be far from an easy task.

“It will be a tough game as Barrow have started well for a team first season up, and we will need to be on the ball,” said Bonner, speaking to the Cambridge Independent.

“They have had a little bit of a disrupted period, but they were outstanding in the National League last year.

“They played with a real style and they’ve tried to continue that this year.

“They have made a good start and I’m sure they will have wanted more points from some of the games, but they have shown they’ve got an ability to keep the ball and create chances.

“We don’t expect an easy or simple task at the weekend. We know we will have to make sure we find the intensity levels that we have been finding to be competitive first and to give ourselves a chance of coming out the right side of the result.”

Barrow will be hoping to build on their recent league victories against Mansfield and Bradford against a Us side who sit two points off the top of the table.

They could face League Two’s player of the month tomorrow with Cambridge frontman Paul Mullin having bagged the divisional award for October.

Newport’s Mike Flynn took the manager of the month gong.

Dunn is assessing a number of selection decisions ahead of the trip to face a side yet to be beaten on home soil.

The AFC boss made nine changes for Tuesday’s Papa John’s Trophy defeat to Accrington Stanley.

The game saw Scott Quigley and Kgosi Ntlhe get some crucial minutes under their belts after injury as they push for further league involvement.

Although Quigley had a penalty saved, Dunn was pleased to have the influential frontman back in action.

“Quigs is a big player for us and a big plus for us - we’ve missed him so it’s good he got 70 minutes in the tank and is available,” Dunn said.

The Barrow boss is still without Courtney Baker-Richardson, Tom Beadling, Lewis Hardcastle and James Jones as he weighs up his squad ahead of a hectic run of games.

Cambridge are likely to be without Paul Digby and Liam O’Neil while Bonner will also be assessing the fitness of Mullin, Joe Ironside, Wes Hoolahan, Luke Hannant and Jack Iredale.
