Bluebirds assistant manager Rob Kelly says the club’s first Football League win in 48 years is a reward for everyone connected with the club.

Barrow comfortably beat Mansfield Town 4-2 to give them their first EFL win at the ninth time of asking.

It was the first time since April 1972 that Barrow had won a Football League match, following a 2-0 win over Workington.

“I’m delighted for everyone at the club, the fans most of all, and the people who brought us to the club,” he said. “It has been a long time coming.

“The players are aware of what they represent and how long it has taken to get into the Football League.

“They are part of history and it's great to get the first win for everyone who is involved with the club.

“It is only the first win, but it is good to get it. You could see in the othe games there has been a touch of anxiety and they have played the result and not the things that have got us here.”

Barrow raced into a 2-0 lead inside 23 minutes after goals from Brad Barry and Patrick Brough.

James Perch pulled a goal back following a blunder by Joel Dixon before Josh Kay and Harrison Biggins added further goals after the dismissal of Aaron O’Driscoll for the hosts.

Harry Charsley added a late consolation, but in truth Mansfield were fortunate the margin of defeat had not been much bigger.

But, despite the comprehensive win, Kelly knows there's still plenty of work to do for the league newcomers.

“We have been threatening to do that in lots of games in bits and pieces,” added Kelly.

“We still have a few things to work on, the goals we conceded were disappointing and we should have scored more.

“It was a really good performance from everybody, but it is only one game.

“We will dust ourselves down ready for Saturday, but we will enjoy this one.

“It was a good 90 odd minutes, but we could have had the game out of sight at half-time."

And Kelly believes the impressive win is testament to the hard working being put in each day by the players.

“We have worked hard since we got here to show what we need to keep doing and the things we need to get rid of,” he said.

“You can see a lot of things we have worked on.

“We are growing into the league, it's a step up for the players, some are playing in the Football League for the first time and we are learning.
