Nathan Mossop has been backed to be a key figure for Barrow Raiders in the coming campaign after suffering of bad injuries in recent years.

The longer serving player, who has been at Craven Park for a number of years, has penned a new one year deal with the club.

Mossop, who has been with the club for over ten years, has been working hard on his fitness away from the game for a number of months, after suffering frustrating injuries last season.

Director of Rugby Andy Gaffney said: "He's been with us for quite a while now and is a really important long serving player for us.

"He has had a couple of quite bad injuries he has had to contend with, which has been tough for him.

"But it is an absolute credit to him with how fit and well he has kept himself through all that and through all that is going on at the moment.

"He has had goals he has set for himself outside of rugby which have helped him.

"He is a great lad to have around the squad too, and we're pleased he's agreed to sign another new deal."

Gaffney is also excited about the prospect of seeing Mossop work alongside new boy Shaun Lunt.

He added: "We have him and we have Shaun Lunt who has come in and we think those two are going to work really well together and hopefully strike up a good partnership throughout the next season."
