Watford have signed young midfielder James Garner on a season-long loan from Manchester United.

The 19-year-old is highly thought of at Old Trafford and already has seven senior appearances to his name for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

Garner, who can play in a deep or more advanced midfield role and is noted for his passing ability, started three games in the Europa League last season and made his Premier League debut off the bench in United's 3-1 victory at Norwich City last October.

The youngster's impressive campaign was capped by being named as his parent club's Under-23 Player of the Season, having captained the side for much of the year and scoring eight goals in ten Premier League 2 appearances.

A former England Under-17 captain, Garner also made five outings for the Under-19 team last season.

The midfielder, who has risen through the Academy age groups at Old Trafford having joined the club as an eight-year-old, will wear the number 16 shirt and is available for tomorrow's trip to Sheffield Wednesday.
