Wing king Shane Toal has turned down offers from other rugby league sides to pen a contract extension with Barrow Raiders.

The 24-year-old, who has scored 44 tries in 59 outings for the Craven Park side since he made his debut in 2015, has become the latest player to sign a new deal.

He has signed a contract extension for the coming season, with the club now having signed a good core of players from last season, along with new faces such as Adam Walne and Shaun Lunt.

Director of Rugby Andy Gaffney was delighted to secure the signature of local lad Toal for another year, and has labelled him as 'probably the quickest winger in the league'.

He said: "It is great to have Shane back on a deal.

"He is probably the quickest winger in the league and over the years he has scored some absolutely fantastic tries.

"It is another player who brings quality to our squad, and I know he had some offers to go elsewhere but has chosen to stay local and to stay with Barrow.

"He is something who can carve something out.

"He is a really, really strong player and he brings us a real edge and he is really important for us.

"It is great to have him back on board."

A number of last season's squad have already been confirmed, and Gaffney has said this week that other deals are being finalised with players."
