Barrow Raiders' jets programme will get underway on Monday after a six month absence.

Head coach Paul Crarey will welcome local coaches to Craven Park for the first of two sessions prior to bringing in local youngsters for a five week stint.

Crarey came up with the idea after visiting former Barrow player and coach Rod Reddy(Australian Test legend) down under a few years back, he also visited other top NRL clubs.

He said: “This is our way of bringing the local Coaches and young players to a professional club and link into what we do. We will go through what we do with the coaches- drills etc and then in two weeks time the players will come on board. 11-15 year olds take part between 6-7pm with under 16/17s following at 7-8.

"What we are looking for is for the kids to see how we work and then take it back to their clubs and hope they can produce the goods on the field. The aim is for them to progress and eventually come back and play for our academy.

Two lads who we had in recent years have turned professional with Rio Corkill with St Helens and Luke Broadbent who is at Warrington. Our relationship with the Barrow amateur clubs has never been better. For many years there was friction but now they have bought into what we are aiming for and that is to benefit Barrow rugby league club.”
