Barrow AFC are weighing up the pre-season claims of vastly experienced international midfielder Neil Danns.

The 37-year-old Guyana international has featured for the Bluebirds in recent friendly outings.

Boss David Dunn has used the games to take a look at a player he knows well from their respective times together at Blackburn and Birmingham.

The former Premier League player is available after leaving Tranmere at the end of last season.

Danns made 24 appearances for League One Tranmere in 2019/20 and is one of a number of trialists under consideration at Holker Street.

The club have not commented on Danns or the other hopefuls trying to win a deal under Dunn.

The Bluebirds will be back in action at Southport on Saturday in their latest pre-season game as they continue their build-up to their historic first season back in the Football League for 48 years.

Dunn has said he is keen to add more faces before the big kick-off.

Ex-Crystal Palace, Bolton and Bury player Danns has already indicated that he is keen to prolong his career in the EFL.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo recently, he said: “I am looking for opportunities to show people what I have got, and prove that age is just a number at this point in time.”

Barrow fans, meanwhile, will be able to watch their side from the start of 2020/21 despite early games being played behind closed doors.

The EFL and Sky Sports yesterday confirmed a new “flexible framework” has been agreed for the live streaming of games while access to matches is restricted because of Covid-19.

Any games not shown live on Sky Sports will be available to stream by clubs on the iFollow service for a match price of £10.

Season-ticket holders will also be given access to all home games.

These are said to be temporary measures while clubs operate at a zero or reduced capacity, and will be subject to regular review.

“Subject to clubs choosing to provide access to season ticket holders, this is only available if supporters purchase their 2020/21 ticket by 4th October,” a statement said.

EFL chief executive David Baldwin said: “This framework allows our clubs, if they so wish, to reward their most loyal supporters by providing what we hope is only short-term access to watch their matches. It’s important that whilst the doors remain fully, or part shut, we ensure there is the ability for fans of all EFL clubs to be able to gain access and watch their team and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sky Sports for their support in this matter.

“Collectively, it’s not our preferred situation but given the circumstances COVID has presented us it gives us a temporary option whilst we finalise our plans for fans returning.”
