A powerful batting performance saw Furness CC claim a convincing victory over Haverigg in the latest round of Cumbria Cricket League fixtures.

A rapid 68 from 48 balls by Mark Daly was the highlight of the home side’s innings, which saw Furness post 252-7 from their 40 overs.

A positive tone was set from the top of the order with Lewis Gribbin contributing 47 from 54 balls, while Garry Thompson later smacked a quickfire 42 from 26.

Scott Pearcey also contributed 31 as Furness took control despite Haverigg’s best bowling efforts. Tomas Hawdon’s two wickets coming at a cost of 64 runs while Thomas Crowther took 2-43.

In reply at Furness Park, Haverigg were 135 all out as Furness’s Peter Lawson took 3-30. He was supported by Thompson and Harris Woods, who took two scalps apiece to seal a 117-run win.

Openers Drew Postlethwaite and Glenn Chesher led Haverigg’s response with 34 and 28 but Furness ran through the middle order despite Jordan Postlethwaite’s resistance with 25.

Elsewhere, Hawcoat Park claimed an 88-run victory over Furness Seconds, Rob Stanwix top-scoring with 47 in 237-9. Tom Stanwix, with 3-15, and Callum Muncaster with 3-14 then starred with the ball as they bowled Furness out for 149.
