THERE were well wishes for the Bluebirds from across the world yesterday, as football and non-football fans alike took to Twitter to congratulate Barrow AFC on long-awaited promotion success.
Former Blackpool and Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam posted this short message: “Congratulations [to] BarrowAFC and my old team mate Ian Evatt.”
Brighton and former Bluebirds striker Glenn Murray tweeted: “Congratulations BarrowAFC - back in the Football League. An all-Cumbrian EFL derby to look forward to next season #BAFC #CUFC.”
There was support from Germany too, as FC Cologne posted: “Good news before we start - #BarrowsGoingUp! Star-struck. Our friends Barrow AFC are back in the football league! Congratulations to everyone at the club!”
Cumbria’s highest-ranked team and derby rival, Carlisle United, said: “Congratulations Barrow AFC - thoroughly deserved.
"We look forward to our head-to-heads next season ... best we get on with editing our Twitter profile...”
