Furness Catholic ABC junior Kian O'Neill just missed out on the decision as he, and two of his senior clubmates, competed up the coast at Cleator Moor ABC's home show tournament.

Along with Michael Cheetham and Tai Jacques, O'Neill donned the green and white strip and showcased his developing skills in front of what was a capacity crowd.

O'Neill was up against the home club's Hayden Meagan and he had to box under pressure with his opponents flurrying punches taking to the contest head on.

The youngster dealt with the volume of shots well and picked his own punches to score with quality combinations.

The pace of the contest settled in the second half of the bout and O'Neill was unlucky not to receive the winning decision from the judges.

Next up was Jaques, who faced home boxer Curtis Salmon and was boxing in only his second competitive contest.

Jacques started brightly as did his opponent and after receiving a few well-timed punches in the first round, stepped up his game and used his skills and rangy boxing to take the contest by unanimous decision.

Cheetham was also up against a home boxer in Carl Nicholson, and he boxed with sharp varied shots to the head and body to take the first round, endured a more even second before coming back strongly in the third to take the contest by unanimous decision.
