Matty Hill maintained his hopes of retaining his Barrow Individual Snooker League title after reaching the semi-finals by whitewashing Graeme Edwards in the last eight.

There could still be a repeat of last season's final as well after 2019 runner-up Danny Macdonald produced one of his best performances of the season in beating Tommy Barbour, with the two players subsequently being kept apart in the semi-final draw.

The most one-sided quarter final tie was the first to take place, as Hill swept to a 5-0 victory, although the match was a scrappy affair with both players missing plenty of opportunities.

Hill stormed into a 3-0 lead, but Edwards should have pulled a frame back in the fourth, where he held a 20-point lead with 22 remaining on the table.

However, Hill potted an excellent brown and blue and then sunk a difficult pink before stealing the frame on the black and giving Edwards too steep a mountain to climb, as he went on to take the final frame.

Macdonald v Barbour was the tie of the round, on paper, although both players started a bit nervy, as Barbour took the first frame on the black before Macdonald levelled, as good safety play earned him some foul points on the miss rule.

The match turned on the third frame, as with Barbour leading by 30 points hit the yellow off a snooker, but that went on to hit the black, which then rolled into the middle pocket.

Macdonald went on to clear the colours to go ahead before two 30 breaks and one worth 45 allowed him to open up a 4-1 lead.

Barbour pulled a frame back after a classy 69 break, but a misjudged safety allowed Macdonald to finish the contest on the blue and the pink.

Martin McDonald will face Hill in the semi-finals thanks to a 5-2 win over Tony Mason, who was out of sorts during the match.

Credit must be given to McDonald, however, as breaks of 51 and 58 and steady match play allowed him to progress.

The last four line-up was then completed by John Purcell's 5-1 victory against John Tyerman, but the scoreline doesn't reflect the match as each frame was closely-fought, with the former using his experience to prevail.

Both semi-finals take place at the Soccer Bar, Barrow, tomorrow, with Macdonald's match against Purcell starting at 4pm and Hill taking on McDonald from 7pm, with both matches being the best of 11 frames.

The winners will progress to Finals Night, again at the Soccer Bar, which takes place on March 21 and also includes fundraising for Darren Leith, who has locked-in syndrome, and his family.
