After going in level at half-time, Windermere men's 1st XI were overwhelmed in the second half by Brooklands MU 3rd XI, eventually losing 8-2 to the North League Division Two West leaders.

Brooklands scored the opening goal, but Sam Whitehead levelled for Mere with a remarkable solo run from a self-taken free hit, as he dodged his way through a string of challenges and drew the goalkeeper before firing high into the top corner.

Constant pressure after the restart resulted in a second Brooklands goal, then Dan Spires was yellow-carded for an overly-robust challenge and Mere conceded a third while they were down to ten men.

Brooklands kept pressing and racked up five more goals with some impressive hockey in the rain, with Steve Andrews and Liam Dudley both scored hat-tricks for the hosts, whose other goals came from Brad King and Tom Lockton.

The only consolation for Mere was a Jimmy Dunlop drag-flick penalty corner goal low to the goalkeeper’s right as the game drew to a close.

Windermere ladies' 1st XI dropped to fifth in the Premier Division of the Lancashire Central League following a 4-1 defeat at Rossall, who are now just three points behind them in the table.

South Lakes men's match against Southport 2nd XI in Division Two North of the North West League was postponed as Storm Dennis wreaked havoc.
