Barrow AFC manager Ian Evatt feels his side's 1-0 win over Dover Athletic was just what they deserved after largely dominating the visitors at a typically windy Holker Street on Tuesday night.

Just as in their 2-1 defeat against the Whites two weeks previously, the Bluebirds missed several clear chances, with striker Scott Quigley once again left wondering just what he had to do to score.

Unlike the trip to Kent, however, their profligacy did not cost them, as they eventually got their reward after 73 minutes when Dior Angus followed up to score after Quigley's effort had been parried into his path.

With second-placed Harrogate Town's match at Barnet being abandoned at half-time because of a waterlogged pitch, AFC are now seven points clear at the top of the National League once again.

Evatt said: "I thought we were outstanding, I thought we were top draw today. Despite the wind, we dominated both halves and we created the best chances.

"They've taken into the game what they've been showing me in training and I thought they were outstanding, honestly.

"To create that many opportunities and to play at that level in those conditions is brilliant and we've shown the right reaction from two bad results, one in the cup [FA Trophy] and one down at Dover which I thought was unjust because we didn't deserve that.

"But we put it right today and it was an outstanding victory and a fantastic clean sheet."

The Bluebirds kept that clean sheet in the face of late pressure from Dover during 11 minutes of stoppage time, which mostly came as a result of what looked a serious injury to visiting captain Kevin Lokko.

While Evatt was pleased with how his defence held their nerve at the end, he was also thrilled with the performance of his strike pairing of Quigley and Angus, with the latter's winner marking the end to four games without a goal.

Evatt said: "The front two were excellent - obviously, Scott didn't take one of his chances, although I thought their 'keeper was good as well, he made some very good saves and he's only a young lad as well.

"Sometimes it's not Quigs' day and when it's not Quigs' day, someone else needs to stand up and Dior stood up today.

"There was some great play for the chance for Quigs, the 'keeper made a great save after Roons [John Rooney] played that extra pass that we speak about in training where if you're not in the best position to shoot, someone else is.

"He did exactly what I wanted and Quigs just didn't score. I just thought we were on the front foot and we looked confident."
