Barrow Boxing Promotions will be hosting their first-ever show next month - 'The Homecoming' - which will showcase some of the area's best amateur and professional fighters.

The new promotion has been set up by boxers Lee Kellett and Callum Pearson, who have recently left the jurisdiction of the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) to fight under the British and Irish Boxing Authority (BIBA).

Following the success of a show they ran last August, Kellett and Pearson will be returning to Hoops Basketball Centre in Barrow on Saturday, March 7, with the first fight scheduled for 6pm. The first half will see several local amateurs on the undercard, while three pro bouts will take up the top of the bill following an interval.

Kellett said: “We thought it would be the perfect opportunity for not only ourselves. We live in the middle of nowhere and getting people to buy tickets and then take a day off work to travel elsewhere is difficult.

A lot do it and they’re brilliant for it, but me and Callum just decided that we’d try and run something ourselves locally. We had a chat with Hoops, who got on board with us and told us what we’d have to do to hold the show there.

“It’s a massive untapped place, really, and it just ended up being perfect for us.”

Barrovian super welterweight Pearson tops the bill with a PBC International title fight against Daniel Aduku, while Askam heavyweight Kellett faces Nuhu Azuma for the British Masters bronze title.

Barrow amateur Garry Chambers squares off against former pro Russ Henshaw on the undercard, where fellow local boys Jordan Fisher, Mark Heseltine, David Woods and John Deacy also feature.

Standard unreserved seating for the show is available for £30, while a ringside table of ten will cost £400. For tickets, get in touch with Kellett or Pearson via Facebook.

A pair of boxing gloves signed by Mike Tyson will be auctioned, with the money raised going towards North West Air Ambulance on behalf of Julie Andrews in memory of her son Joe.

Barrow Boxing Promotions wish to thank sponsors Chris Walsh (of Walshy’s Gym), the Masons Arms in Dalton, Elite Dance and Fitness, the Holiday Inn Express in Barrow and ADS Roofing for their help in getting the show on.
