Last season's runner-up Danny Macdonald gave his quarter final prospects a huge boost with two big wins against Brad Elliot in the penultimate round of games in the Barrow Individual Snooker League.

It was must-win for Macdonald it he was to break into the top four of Group B and he recorded a 5-1 victory in the first match despite Elliot putting him under pressure in every frame.

Macdonald then produced arguably his best performance of the season as he repeated that scoreline in the return to put qualification in his own hands.

Elliot took the first frame, but Macdonald dominated the rest of the match, hitting breaks of 30 and 32 before producing a 35 clearance and hitting top gear with big breaks of 77 and 80.

After a difficult start to the season, Macdonald now controls his own fate going into the final round of fixtures

Dale McLean missed a good chance to keep his top four hopes alive after drawing 3-3 with Alan Eaton, with no significant breaks being made, although he did manage to win 5-1 in a return match that was much closer than the scoreline suggested.

Needing maximum points, Graeme Edwards helped his qualification hopes with a 6-0 whitewash over Mike Smith, but a 3-3 draw in the return, in which he made a 52 break, left his fate out of his own hands and he is now relying on favours from other players.

Defending champion Matty Hill virtually assured himself the £50 prize for finishing top of Group A following his double header against Jordan Park.

Hill took four points from the first match, which he won 5-1, and his 53 break was the highlight of the return, where Park fought back well to earn a 3-3 draw, but his top four hopes are now all but over.
