Barrow Celtic Juniors have voiced their frustration over the Barrow & District Junior Football League’s silence over the ban on their young players using their home pitches to play football.

The open letter questions the transparency of decisions made by the league committee concerning the pitches at Ormsgill.

This followed a ‘ban’ on using the pitches from the league because of concerns raised by a visiting team on social media. The club state they are ‘keen to work with the league’ but have questioned the ban, citing the fact they have been told they have been allowed to train on the pitches and it is still being used by open age players.

Chairman Andrew Shipley said: “Unfortunately, we feel we have no option than to release a public statement regarding the issues having had no communication from council or league. We just want to work to get our kids back playing football on their home ground.”

In the letter the club also question the role of the council in the decision making, saying: “We hear a great deal about what the future may hold for local sports facilities.

“In terms of Schneider Road, we would certainly support development of local football there but there is no good in the council talking about grandiose long-term schemes with any private partners when they aren’t consulting the very people who are using their facilities.”
