South Lakes ladies picked up a second excellent win in successive weeks in Division Three North West of the North League after claiming up a 4-3 victory at Lancaster and Morecambe.

The results not only kept them fifth in the table but moved them to within one point of their opponents after coming out on top of what was a thrilling encounter.

It’s been an excellent return to action for Lakes this month and they’ll look to get February off on the right note when second-from-bottom University of Liverpool 2nd XI come to Ulverston on Saturday.

Unfortunately for South Lakes men, their match against leaders Didsbury Northern 4th XI in Division Two North of the North West League went to form as they hosts ran out 5-0 winners.

With third-from-bottom Horwich winning emphatically last week, Lakes are now five points adrift of them but they’ll have the chance to close that gap this weekend when basement club Formby 4th XI come to visit.

Windermere ladies 1st XI remain fourth in the Premier Division of the Lancashire Central League following a 6-3 win over Longridge 2nd XI.

Sarah Hartley scored the opener for Mere but sloppy play allowed the visitors to level and then go ahead before half-time.

Mere regrouped and drew level with a fine penalty corner strike by skipper Abbey Carroll and she then linked with Kitty Carr at another penalty corner to give them the lead.

Midfield dynamo Hannah Clark scored her first goal of season, Kitty Carr added a fifth from another short corner and Kitty Brownell ran through the Longridge defence to bag a sixth before Longridge pulled one back at the close.

Lymm dashed Windermere men’s 1st XI hopes of a return to winning ways in Division Two West of the North League as they won a closely-fought game 3-2.

Both Mere goals were scored by skipper Adam Whitehead and their focus now turns to an all-Cumbria home clash with Keswick on Saturday, with their visitors just below them in the table.

Two penalty corner drag flicks undid Windermere men’s 2nd XI bid for victory at Lytham St Annes 2nd XI, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat in Division Four North North of the North West League, despite going ahead through Jack Spiby.
