British Legion A are in a dominant position at the top of the snooker league table in the Barrow Friday League after going three points clear with a 3-0 away win against the Barrow Football Supporters Club.

Their captain John Tyerman leading the way with a 78-21 win over Frank Mullen, backed up with wins for teammates Dave Simpson and Billy Burns over Stuart Culbert and Jimmy Christie, respectively.

The Navy Club took all three points away to the Roose Cons with Dave Wilkie earning a good 50-36 win against Lee Majors. Joe O’Leary took a tight game against Dave Kewley, winning 54-44, and Andy Charnley potted well in taking his game over Nick Wilkes with a 56-21 scoreline.

Second-placed British Legion lost a point against Vickerstown Cricket Club. Captain Mike Smith won the first game of the night quite comfortably 59-33 against Jimmy Allen.

Stuart Benson replied for the Cricketers and was always in the lead against Colin Taylor, who came back well from a 40-point deficit on the colours, but Benson took the pink for game in winning 64-51.

Jack Arnold potted well to take his game against Lee Jefferson 58-19, with 16 and 21 breaks, to take the final point.

Last year’s billiards league winners the British Legion took all of their home games against Vickerstown Cricket Club, with Allan Edmondson starting the night by comfortably beating top man Gareth Willis 100-19.

The second frame was quite the opposite between Peter Scott and Alf Carruthers, who came good at the end to pinch it 100-95, before Kevin Quinn took the final point with a 100-69 win over David Holmes.

British Legion A Club also had a good night on the green baize against the Barrow Football Supporters Club, taking all three games to keep them in contention at the top of the league.

Their top man won 100-84 against Harry Bateman before two very tight games ensued, with Tony Macmillan winning his game against Denis Plant 100-98 and Steve Hetherington taking his game against Jimmy Wilson 100-97.

Navy Club were also on form against the Roose Cons, with top man Geoff Turner getting the better of Peter Roberts 100-64. Navy’s captain John Clamp took his game against Mike Irving 100-56 before Paul Kyle sealed the final point over Rob Chissim.
