Barrow AFC manager Ian Evatt was happy to take a point after they were put under the cosh for long periods of the second half of their 1-1 draw at Boreham Wood.

The Wood put the Bluebirds on the back foot in a way no other opponent has managed in the National League this season and it threatened to end the visitors’ long unbeaten run.

However, their 16th game without defeat in all competitions led to them ending their afternoon in Hertfordshire in a better position than when they started, as results elsewhere grew their lead at the top of the table to four points.

They had to ride their luck along the way at Meadow Park, not least when the hosts’ top scorer Kabongo Tshimanga came up with his contender for ‘Miss of the Season’ with eight minutes left.

Evatt said: “Credit to Boreham Wood, they were excellent. They really wanted to win and they had a proper go at us.

“They played some good football, missed some good opportunities in the second half and I feel my players deserve that luck for how we’ve played, maybe not today but in past weeks earlier in the season.

“It’s ended up being a very good point when you look at results elsewhere.

“However, it’s my job as a manager to let them understand and let them know that that’s not acceptable. We can be so much better than that.

“I’ve been in football a long time, I had a fantastic [playing] career, so I’m not naïve enough to think that we’re just going to turn up and roll teams over week in, week out.

“It doesn’t work like that, teams are going to fight and teams are going to raise their game against us, but it doesn’t mean that I can’t demand and expect perfection.”
