South Lakes ladies lifted themselves up to fifth in Division Three North West of the North League thanks to a 3-1 win at home to Leyland and Chorley.

It is the highest position Lakes have found themselves in all season and it allowed them to leapfrog their opponents in the table in the process, although they do still have a game in hand.

It also helped them put the double disappointment of defeats against Fylde 3rd XI and Carlisle the previous week behind them and they’ll be looking to keep up the good work away at Lancaster and Morecambe on Saturday.

South Lakes men, however, were left licking their wounds after they suffered a 6-2 loss at home to Leyland and Chorley in Division Two North of the North West League.

Lakes were overpowered by the team who sit second in the table at Ulverston Leisure Centre, with Stuart Smith striking from free play in the first half and Tom Clements from a penalty corner in the second to grab consolation goals.

In the Premier Division of the Lancashire Central League, Windermere ladies’ 1st XI came from behind to twice lead Pendle Forest 3rd XI but still had to settle for a 4-4 draw away to the bottom side.

Pendle took the lead with their first breakaway attack before doubling that advantage with a penalty stroke for a foot on the line.

Kitty Brownell pulled one back just before half-time and two quickfire goals put Mere ahead early in the second half, as Raine Wickens cut the ball back for Zoe Birkett to finish before and Eilis Lightfoot got behind Pendle’s rearguard to score.

Another Pendle breakaway and set play strike levelled the score again and a thrilling finish saw Kitty Carr strike what looked to be the winner with five minutes left before the hosts levelled once more with a rebound from a penalty corner.

A below strength Windermere men’s 1st XI went down to a 7-0 loss at home to an impressive Alderley Edge 2nd XI in Division Two West of the North League.

The men’s 2nd XI had a better afternoon, however, as they swept to 5-2 victory over Kirkby Lonsdale 2nd XI in Division Four North North of the North West League.

Pierce Harris scored twice for Mere, whose other goals came from John Fairman, Elliot Kirby and Steve Heyns.
