Barrow AFC manager Ian Evatt feels his side picked up a very important three points by downing fellow promotion hopefuls Bromley 2-0 in front of a big crowd at Holker Street.

The Bluebirds’ second-biggest crowd of the season, 3,155 (with many of those still queuing to get in after kick-off), saw goals from Dior Angus and John Rooney keep the Bluebirds three points clear at the top of the National League.

They were given a much sterner test by the Ravens than they had in their previous two games on a Saturday, hardly surprising given their own promotion aspirations for the season.

However, they may now have to settle for a play-off place, as they failed to make their chances count in front of goal to fall eight points behind AFC, having played two games more.

Evatt said: “It’s a fantastic result, there’s no denying it. That was a big game and a very big result.

“It was cagey at times, these games at the top of the league are always going to be that way.

“They changed their shape, they paid us respect by trying to stifle us and it was difficult at times in the first half, but we got a fantastic goal on the counter-attack and then second half we grew into it.

“We tired the opposition with the way we moved the ball and once the second one went in, we looked comfortable.”

“There were a couple of moments in the second half where they caught us on the counter-attack and we got a bit sloppy, but other than that I thought we were magnificent, man-for-man.

“Sometimes in football, you make your own luck and we deserve that with the way we’ve played and the back three today were outstanding – them three and Joel [Dixon] haven’t conceded a goal yet this year, and that’s some achievement.”
