Georgia Stanway will help Manchester City resume their title challenge in the Women’s Super League next week, with her believing the top flight is now more competitive than ever.

It is a three-horse race in the WSL this season, with defending champions Arsenal three points clear of City and Chelsea one point further back with a game in hand.

Following their Christmas break, City will restart their campaign at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with plenty still to play for in the remainder of it.

Stanway said: “It’s getting more competitive and it’s getting more entertaining for fans to watch, for us to be a part of and if we can get as many fans to the games as possible, then we need to entertain them. If you’re doing that by playing good football, then that’s just the aim of what we want to do.”

City neighbours Manchester United are off the title pace, but they find themselves fourth in the table in what is their first season in the WSL.

Stanway is welcoming the challenge they could bring, saying: “I think the fact there was a Manchester derby is good for the league. There had never been one before and we were able to have that at the start of the season.

“I think it’s massive that we’ve got another northern team getting involved and bring up the women’s game and it’s important that Manchester United have made a team, having been such a big club.”
