Three Black Combe Runners took to the streets of Ulverston to take part in the Glaxo Hoad Hill Harriers' Christmas Pudding 10km road race, which saw a brilliant turnout of 265 toe the line, despite clashes with races taking place in Cartmel and Lancaster.

Although not a Club Championships counter, Julian Donnelly was the first Green and Black (46mins 45secs), finishing in the top 100 overall, while Kathleen Donnelly and Karl Fursey clocked times of 54:58 and 60:56, respectively.

In good running conditions, albeit windy with a passing shower, the race was won by Nathan Gray of the Border Harriers in 32:26, whilst the ladies result saw victory go to Cumberland AC's Natalie McCarron in 40:21.

A new male age category best for this event was set as under-18 runner Matthew Knowles (Lancaster and Morecambe AC) got round in 32:51 to finish fourth overall.

At the Grizedale Trail 'Petzl' Night Runner 10k race, BCRs Viv Riley got round the challenging course in 71:14. The race was won by Josh Wade (unattached) clocking 39:55, whilst Ella Parry, also unattached, took the ladies victory in 45:33.

Taking place not so long ago was the Really Wild Boar fell race, which was held outside of Sedbergh over some testing terrain.

This didn't deter three BCRs from entering and they all had good runs, with Patrick McIver getting round the five-mile course in 53:38, whilst John Parminter posted 58:01.

Steve Wathall also subbed the hour with his 58:10 clocking. It was a clean sweep for the team prize as Keswick AC had all their men on the podium positions with Carl Bell winning, Mark Lamb runner-up and Sam Stead very close behind, clocking 39:57, 41:16 and 41:18, respectively. The ladies section was won by Ambleside ACs Beth Hanson in 49:36.

The first of the club's Winter Training League races is the Dunnerdale fell race, which has a five-mile route, on New Year's Day at 11am from the village hall at Broughton Mills.

Non-BCR members are welcome to turn up and take part in all Winter Training League races, details of which are on the BCR website forum and Facebook pages.

All BCRs 2020 'WTL' races are free to enter, and after NYD, they'll be on a Saturday or a Sunday and all starting at 10:30am.
