British Legion ran out 17-11 winners over the Navy Club in the fourth round of fixtures in the Knockout Cup of the Barrow Friday League.

Legion came out best on the snooker table taking two games on the night. The first game between Joe O’Leary and Mike Smith went to the visitors, with O'Leary clearing up well on the colours with a 22 break to take the game 57- 47.

In the second frame between Jack Arnold and Dave Wilkie, it was Arnold who took the game on the pink after a nip and tuck affair between the two players to win 55-43.

Allan Edmondson, who was playing two table games, was too strong for Dave Simpson who conceded with a red still on the table with the score 55-12.

Legion’s billiards table had a good night on their home table, with their Allan Edmondson leading the way by taking the first game in runaway fashion against Geoff Turner, a 22-break helping his 100-30 cause along the way.

Navy’s captain John Clamp was next to the table against Alf Carruthers and the lead changed hands along the way before Carruthers ran out a 100-80 winner.

Kevin Quinn took the last game of the night, but only just against Paul Kyle, as a good run at the end saw him take the final point with a 100-79 scoreline.

The hosts came out surprise 4-3 winners at the darts despite the top two games going to the Navy with Simpson (140) taking the top man’s game against Edmondson (95) and Dave Rafferty (100) keeping his good run of wins going by beating Smith 601-491.

Chris Kirkby took the other away point with a good 601-397 win over Tony Norman. The home wins came from captain Tony Woodward, Dave Roberts getting the better of Wilkie (110) and Colin Taylor just pipping Barry Crawford 95 to the finishing post 601-599. Quinn took the final game of the night with a 601-586 win over Clamp.

Navy Club came out best at Welch Don with a 6-3 result. Brian Sharp and Pat Fogharty won the first game of the night with a 2-0 result against Woodward and George Horne.

Kirkby and Brian Newby got the same result against Taylor and Roberts. Rafferty with Dave Graham taking their game 2-1 over Quinn and Carruthers before Edmondson and Norman saved grace with a 2-0 result against Wilkie and Simpson.
