Duddon Canoe Club were honoured at the recent AGM of Cumbria Canoeists when member Jacky McKenny was awarded British Canoeing Volunteer of the Year.
McKenny was presented with the prestigious regional prize at Carlisle Cricket Club last week in recognition of her work with the club, who are based at Cavendish Dock in Barrow and are currently holding their winter sessions every Saturday.
Jacky works behind the scenes on many tasks, including memberships, website, newsletters, timing, and hot chocolate maker, to name just a few.
Jacky and her husband Martin are also regularly seen in their two-man kayak at club events on Ramsden Dock, local lakes and at regional marathon races.
Head coach John Sherwen said: "Jacky is a great asset to the club and richly deserves this award."
The presentation was made by Jen Steventon, Cumbria Canoeist secretary.
