Although they'll have to wait until tomorrow to cross paths on the pitch, Barrow AFC and Barnet have recently moved past each other in the National League table due to their contrasting form.

In what is their second season in the fifth tier since their relegation from the Football League, the Bees were one of the teams tipped to challenge for promotion and for the opening six weeks of the season, they lived up to their billing.

However, since defeating Aldershot Town 2-0 at The Hive on September 17 they have only won twice in their last 11 league games and have slid down the table at the same time as the Bluebirds' wonderful rise up it.

However, the tight nature of the division this season means that even though they are 15th going into their long trip from North London to Cumbria, they are by no means out of contention.

They are still just five points off a play-off place with over half the season still to play, but they must find some consistency in their results if they are to push their way back up the table.

Not helped by injuries to Shaq Coulthirst, Chris Sparkes, Alfie Pavey and Ricardo Santos, their struggles bear a lot of resemblance to AFC's from the first month of the season, as their hard work is often undone by individual errors.

This was the case in their 2-1 home defeat against Stockport County last Saturday, where they threw away the one-goal lead given to them by Ephron Mason-Clark, as late goals from Elliot Osborne and Frank Mulhern gave the Hatters the three points.

Manager Darren Currie said: “They have one or two chances and taken two, we’ve had several chances and only taken one. It’s the same old scenario. What frustrates me is the amount of work we do on it."

Barnet did the double over Barrow last season, which included a comfortable 2-0 win at Holker Street on their previous visit in October 2018, which came courtesy of first half goals by Manny Duku and Wes Fonguck.
