Barrow’s Liam Livingstone will be playing in Australia’s Big Bash League for the first time this winter after signing for the Perth Scorchers.

Livingstone is the Scorchers’ first overseas signing for the 2019/20 season and his teammates will include Mitchell Marsh, who captains the side, and Cameron Bancroft.

It will be the fourth different country the 26-year-old has played overseas in T20 cricket after featuring for Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League earlier in the year.

Livingstone will head Down Under after the conclusion of the Mzansi Super League in South Africa, where he is currently playing for Cape Town Blitz.

Livingstone said: “I’m really looking forward to playing in the Big Bash. Obviously, it’s a competition that people love and one that I’ve grown up watching and always wanted to play in.

“Hopefully that will be another good experience for me and I can’t wait to get out there and get started.”

The BBL season starts on December 17 and continues through to February 8 2020.

The Scorchers are the most successful franchise in the competition, having won it three times, with their most recent triumph coming in the 2016/17 edition.

The 60,000-capacity Optus Stadium, which has replaced the ageing WACA as the Perth venue, will be Livingstone’s home venue during the BBL and he can’t wait to step out in the middle there.

He said: “I actually played in the first game in the new stadium when it was opened because I played in a trial game for the England Lions against Perth Scorchers while I was over there [in December 2017].

“It’s probably one of the best grounds in the world – the light shows and the stuff they’ve got going on there is unbelievable, so I’m sure it will be a great experience.

“To have Newlands and the Optus as my two home stadiums before Christmas, it doesn’t really get much better than that.”

Livingstone contributed 21 off ten balls on his debut for the Blitz on Friday, as the Cape Town side defeated Jozi Stars by 15 runs at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
