Several Black Combe Runners competed in the first of this season's mid-Lancs Cross-Country League meetings, which took place at the Ulverston Glaxo sports field in good conditions.

The BCRs involved were running with their second claim club (as BCR aren't in the mid-Lancs league) and they enjoyed the multi-lap course brought in for the event.

In the women's race, Rebecca Rooke finished a brilliant 23rd overall in a good 30 minutes 21 seconds after the three laps. Victory went to Emily Japp of Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde AC in 24:56.

The men's race covered four large laps totalling 9km and churned up the ground even more, making it more challenging, as Josh Murphy got round, 39th place overall, in a good 37:34.

Matthew Rooke followed on closely, clocking 37:57, while Karl Fursey got round as the last runner under the hour, in 59:56. The winner was Luke Minns of Blackpool Wyre and Fylde AC in 31:33.

The Wasdale Show fell race, which goes up and down Kirk Fell from the showground, recently attracted members from BCR, and while Simon Bailey of Mercia Fell Runners was first back in 37:33, Mike Jewell had a good run for the Green and Blacks, clocking a very respectable 58:22 given he's in the MV60 category. His clubmate Nick Sebley also subbed the hour by 16 seconds.

Rachel Pilling (Pudsey & Bramley AC) was the ladies victor in a time of 49:58.
