A DELUGE that lasted through Friday afternoon and most of the night put paid to most of our local fixtures at the weekend with only a handful of games surviving the wet weather.

Holker Old Boys welcomed Nelson to Rakesmoor Lane in the North West Counties League and on a day that the hosts weren’t quite at the races they managed to earn a point via a 1-1 draw.

Yves Zama put Nelson ahead early on, but Holker equalised through a Sam Joel penalty after 18 minutes. Holker did have some moments where they could have possibly taken all three but it wasn’t to be on the day and they drop to third in the table.

Walney Island remain top of the table in Division Two of the West Lancashire League after a thumping 12-0 win against Storeys FC at Tummerhill.

Matt Lockley and Scott Goulding both grabbed hat tricks, while Zach Walker and James Bailey helped themselves to doubles for the rampant hosts. Steve Brennan and Kieran Sollaway rounded off the scoring in a game that saw Will Boulton provide a great assist.

Furness Rovers also had a convincing home victory as they saw off Mill Hill St Peters by a 5-1 scoreline. Liam Shields (2), Ryan Fagan, Joe Tindale and Jordan Chubb were the Rovers’ marksmen as they consolidated their third place position.

The rest of the West Lancs fixtures, including the derbies between Askam United and Crooklands Casuals and Ulverston Rangers and Millom, fell foul of the weather.

Furness Premier League action took place at Haverigg United’s ever dependable Wilson Park home, but it was visitors Croftlands Park who left the happiest following a 1-0 win, as Isaac Prosser scored what proved to be the match-winning effort.

Croftlands moved themselves up to fifth as a result, in what was the one Premier Division fixture to take place.

The only other two games that survived the weather were both from the First Division, as leaders Hawcoat Park welcomed Swarthmoor Social reserves and they entertained the crowd with a 3-3 draw. Luke Mitchell (2) and Tom Stanwix were on target for Hawcoat.

Meanwhile, Millom A edged past Askam United reserves 3-2 thanks to goals from Kieron Thompson, Jamie Pattinson and Neil Shaw.
