Last year’s Barrow Friday League Knockout Cup winners the Navy Club fell to a 15-14 defeat at home to Barrow Football Supporters Club in the second round.

The opening snooker game started with Joe O’Leary winning 66 -33 in a high scoring game against Tony Mason before Adam Cook beat Andy Charnley 49-37 in a black ball decider and Steve Redpath potted well to give Dave Wilkie no chance, taking the game 63-21.

At billiards, the away side took two of the games, as Harry Bateman defeated Paul Kyle 100-75 in the top man's game and Denis Plant got the better of Ian Large 100-78. Geoff Turner, with the help of a good 27 break, pulled one back for the home side in beating Stuart Culbert 100-57.

In the darts, Harry Bateman hit a tremendous four tons in his game and finished with a 119 knock up in his comprehensive win over Dave Rafferty. There were then good wins for Culbert, captain Mike Edwards, Stuart Pearson and Steve Martin, who finished with a 91 knock up.

The Navy took all eight points available at welch don, but it wasn't quite enough for the win.

In the snooker, Mike Smith won comprehensively 55-14 against top man John Tyerman before Bill Burns eased to a 65-9 win against Tony Norman, who had to conceded with a red still on the table. Allan Edmondson and Dave Simpson contested the final frame, which was tight to the very end, with Edmondson winning 66-53.

At billiards Paul Fieldhouse took the first game 100-56 against Alf Carruthers before Edmondson played exceptionally well in beating legion’s top man comfortably 100-53. Kevin Quinn then took a tight game against Steve Hetherington 100-90.

Legion A took six points from the darts, with wins for Mike Yorke, getting the better of Edmondson 95-121, Dave Macmillan, Mala McCoy, Burns, Simpson (92), and Dave Leech (97). Smith, with a 140 score, pulled one back for Legion, winning 601-498 against Hetherington.

At welch don, the game played earlier in the week gave Quinn and Carruthers a headstart for the Legion side, winning 2-1 against Hetherington and Fieldhouse, but to no avail, as the Legion A squad took the rest of the games 2-0, thanks to Leech/Walter Bowes, Macmillan/McCoy and Alan Reid with a different partner.
